OUR HISTORY

EARLY BEGINNINGS

The idea of having an educational institution for the young children was conceptualized when the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of the Most Holy Rosary of the Philippines established a Regional House for the Congregation in the year 1986 at Lumikula Street in the new subdivision of Waipio Gentry in Waipahu.

Moved by the spirit of evangelization, the Congregation, whose main apostolate is education, started to build a structure adjacent to the Sisters’ convent with the intention of opening a Preschool to cater to the needs of the young children in the locality. An engineer and architect were hired to build a structure with three classrooms, an administrative office, and other features necessary features to the running of a preschool.

ESTABLISHMENT OF ROSARY PRESCHOOL

It was in the year 1987 when the ROSARY PRESCHOOL first opened its doors to children ages 3-4 year olds. With Sr. M. Felicitas Macsera, O.P. as the first Director of the school, Rosary Preschool started its operation with the help of three other Sisters, and some lay faculty as teacher aides.

LICENSING OF THE PRESCHOOL & FIRST GRADUATES

By the year 1989, the school was given a certificate of recognition by the Catholic Schools Department of the Diocese of Honolulu. A year after in 1999, a license was issued by Hawaii Catholic Schools signed by the Most Rev. Msgr. Francis Di Lorenzo, Bishop of Honolulu and the Catholic Schools superintendent, Carmen Himenes. The school had its first graduation by the end of the school year with twenty-six (26) graduates.
